Whirlpool Refrigerator Wire Harness Class Action Settlement
What Is the Whirlpool Refrigerator Settlement About?
The lawsuit alleges that wires leading into the freezer door can fail, interrupting in-door functions. Plaintiffs asserted warranty, negligence and concealment claims. Whirlpool disputes the allegations, and approval does not mean the court found its refrigerators defective.
This settlement addresses the defined wire harness problem. Other refrigerator malfunctions do not qualify automatically. Personal injury claims and damage to property other than the refrigerator are not released by the settlement.
How Much Is the Whirlpool Refrigerator Settlement Payout?
Benefits depend on the refrigerator’s age when the qualifying repair, replacement or failure occurred. For already-paid qualifying repairs or replacements, the reimbursement tiers are:
- Years 2–4: 75% of qualifying repair costs with prior notice, or 65% without; replacement reimbursement equals 50% of the original refrigerator’s purchase price with prior notice, or 45% without.
- Year 5: repair reimbursement is 60% with prior notice or 50% without; replacement reimbursement is 40% or 35%, respectively.
- Years 6–7: repair reimbursement is 45% with prior notice or 35% without; replacement reimbursement is 30% or 25%, respectively.
Higher rates require qualifying notice to Whirlpool or the retailer before paying. Prior compensation reduces reimbursement.
For qualifying unrepaired problems existing at the notice date and qualifying later failures, the repair option covers parts and labor for failures in years 2–4, or parts only in years 5–7. The alternative qualifying replacement reimbursement is 50% of the original purchase price for years 2–3, 40% for years 4–5, or 30% for years 6–7.
The current FAQ permits benefits for multiple separately qualifying wire harness failures in one refrigerator, with documentation for each. Previously paid wire-splicing or reconnection repairs may also qualify for additional relief. There is no flat payment simply for owning a covered appliance. The current website also lists a replacement door or cash equal to 30% of the original refrigerator’s purchase price for preexisting failures more than seven years after the In-Service Date; qualifying preexisting problems with an unproven failure date receive the year-seven benefit.
Am I Eligible to File a Claim?
You may qualify if your refrigerator has an included model and serial number and you:
- Bought it new from Whirlpool or an authorized reseller for residential use in the United States or its territories.
- Acquired it as part of a home purchase or remodel.
- Received it new as a gift from someone who made a qualifying purchase.
Use the official serial-number checker; brand, model or manufacturing year alone is insufficient. Past paid repairs and future coverage generally concern failures in years two through seven after the In-Service Date. Special rules apply to preexisting unrepaired problems. The manufacture date is used unless you provide records establishing when you bought or received the refrigerator.
Prepare evidence of acquisition, the wire problem, failure timing and any expenses. Prequalified notice recipients do not need to re-prove the issue or prior contact already identified in Whirlpool’s records, but must still document claimed spending.
Is the Whirlpool Refrigerator Settlement Legit?
Yes. Judge Maryellen Noreika of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware oversees Costa v. Whirlpool Corp. The court entered final approval and judgment on July 9, 2026, and appointed Angeion Group as administrator.
The final order awarded attorneys’ fees, expenses and service awards separately from class benefits. Those awards do not reduce eligible consumers’ scheduled benefits. The official website provides the judgment, notice and claim materials.
When’s the Claim Deadline?
For qualifying past or preexisting problems, submit the claim and required records online by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on November 2, 2026, or mail a signed paper claim postmarked by that date. The past-repair route covers qualifying issues before May 5, 2026; the preexisting-problem route also covers an unrepaired issue existing on May 5, 2026.
For qualifying problems after May 5, 2026, contact Whirlpool or the administrator within 90 days after first experiencing the problem, and before undertaking repair or replacement. The issue must occur within seven years of the refrigerator’s In-Service Date. November 2 is not the end of every future repair benefit.
Who Qualifies for the Whirlpool Settlement?
Each claim must concern a covered refrigerator and the defined wire harness failure. A purchaser whose appliance works normally does not receive a payment just for being in the class.
The class excludes specified Whirlpool personnel and affiliates, case attorneys and their households, insurers and subrogees, third-party warranty or service-contract providers, and valid opt-outs. The exclusion and objection deadlines passed June 2, 2026.
How Do I File a Whirlpool Refrigerator Settlement Claim Form?
For past or preexisting problems, open Submit a Claim on the official website, check your serial number, enter the requested refrigerator and failure information, select the appropriate benefit, attach records and sign. Submit a separate form for each refrigerator and document every occurrence claimed. You can also download and mail the form to the administrator’s claim-submission address above.
For a later failure, request repair benefits from Whirlpool at 844-667-2929 or refset2026@whirlpool.com. For the cash reimbursement route, contact info@RefrigeratorSettlement.com. Do so within 90 days and before repair or replacement so the applicable process can be followed. Keep your records and confirmation.
