Navy Federal Unauthorized Personal Loan Class Action Settlement
What Is the Navy Federal Unauthorized Loan Settlement About?
Plaintiffs allege that Navy Federal failed to prevent unauthorized personal loans and then declined to cancel them after scammers posing as credit union personnel induced members to transfer the proceeds. The lawsuit challenges the credit union’s responsibility for those disputed loans.
The parties agreed to resolve the dispute without a decision that Navy Federal was liable. The settlement applies to an identified group of affected borrowers, rather than everyone who has used Navy Federal.
How Much Is the Navy Federal Settlement Payout?
The relief has separate components:
- Cancellation of the eligible personal loan balance.
- Refunds of payments made toward the loan, including money Navy Federal offset from a member’s account.
- Requests to delete loan-related credit reporting and application inquiries, with reasonable steps to confirm the credit bureaus comply.
- An additional $250 for each eligible member who submits a valid claim.
Refunds and the additional cash payment go to the member’s Navy Federal deposit account. If that account is closed, payment is mailed by check. Refund amounts depend on the eligible loan payments. Approved legal fees and representative awards are paid separately and do not reduce members’ benefits.
Am I Eligible to File a Claim?
You must have been a Navy Federal member provided a qualifying personal loan between January 1, 2023 and January 31, 2025. All of these conditions must apply:
- The application came from a device not familiar to Navy Federal.
- The loan proceeds were deposited into your member account.
- You disputed the personal loan as fraudulent.
- Navy Federal denied that dispute in full or in part.
- Navy Federal did not recover all of the loan proceeds.
The $250 form asks you to certify that an unauthorized loan was taken out using your membership and that you suffered additional damages. Sign only if that statement is accurate.
Is the Navy Federal Unauthorized Loan Settlement Legit?
Yes. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted preliminary approval and appointed American Legal Claims Services to administer the settlement. Judge Arenda Wright Allen oversees the case.
The final approval hearing is scheduled for December 9, 2026, at noon in Norfolk, Virginia. Final approval is still pending as of October 27, 2026. The official website posts court documents and any schedule changes.
When’s the Claim Deadline?
Submit the additional $250 claim online, or mail a form postmarked, by November 29, 2026. The exclusion and objection deadlines are November 9, 2026.
You do not need to file this cash claim to receive the automatic benefits if you remain an eligible class member. Some loan relief has already occurred or will occur under the agreed remediation process. Do not treat the claim deadline as a payment date.
Who Qualifies for the Navy Federal Settlement?
A mailed or emailed settlement notice means Navy Federal’s records identified you as a class member. Your notice lists the relevant loan account and refund information. The class is defined by the loan conditions above, without a single-state residency restriction.
Closing your deposit account does not by itself remove you from the class. Keep your mailing address current so a check can reach you. If you think you meet the definition but did not receive notice, ask the administrator to check your status before submitting a claim.
How Do I File a Navy Federal Settlement Claim Form?
Use Online Claim Submission on the official website or the paper form supplied with your notice. Have your Notice ID and PIN available. Review your name and contact details, complete the certification and sign the form. The claim process specifies a certification rather than an upload of loss receipts.
For a paper claim, mail the completed form to Edey v NFCU, c/o Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 23668, Jacksonville, FL 32241. Keep a copy and proof of submission. Use Update Address on the website if your details change; assistance is also available at 800-843-3807 or info@NFCUloansettlement.com.
