What Is the Google Assistant Settlement About?
The lawsuit alleges that Google Assistant sometimes activated even though no one said a wake phrase such as “Hey Google” or manually started the assistant. Plaintiffs call these events “False Accepts” and allege that resulting audio was collected, used or disclosed in ways that violated privacy rights and Google’s privacy assurances. Google denies the allegations.
How Much Is the Google Assistant Settlement Payout?
The exact payment is not yet known. After approved fees and expenses are deducted, the net fund will be divided using points:
- Purchaser Settlement Class claims receive four points per eligible Google-made device, up to three devices.
- Privacy Settlement Class claims receive one point.
- A person who qualifies for both classes may receive points for both claim types.
Each point’s cash value depends on the total number of valid claims and points. No unused money returns to Google; feasible residual funds may be redistributed or directed to a court-approved nonprofit.
Am I Eligible to File a Claim?
You may qualify if at least one of the following applies:
- You are a U.S. user who purchased a Google-made device—including certain Google Home, Nest Hub or Pixel devices—between May 18, 2016, and March 19, 2026.
- You used Google Assistant, or lived in the household of a user, during that period and have a good-faith belief that your communications were recorded because of a False Accept or disclosed to a third-party review vendor.
The official definitions and exclusions control. Each class member must submit an individual claim; a parent or legal guardian must submit for an eligible minor.
Is the Google Assistant Settlement Legit?
Yes. The settlement is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California before Judge Beth Labson Freeman. A.B. Data, Ltd. operates the court-authorized settlement website. Filing is free.
When’s the Claim Deadline?
Submit the online claim by August 27, 2026, or mail a completed claim form postmarked by that date. The final approval hearing is scheduled for October 1, 2026.
Who Qualifies for the Google Assistant Settlement?
Eligibility is broader than ownership alone but still requires the specific class definitions. Purchasers must be qualifying users who bought a Google-made device in the United States or its territories. Privacy claimants must be qualifying users or household members whose own communications were allegedly captured by a False Accept or disclosed for third-party review.
How Do I File a Google Assistant Settlement Claim Form?
Visit the official website and complete the individual claim form. If you received a notice, use its Unique ID and PIN; you can still file without those codes. Be prepared to provide current contact information, relevant Google account and device information, select the class or classes that apply, and sign under penalty of perjury. Keep the confirmation number and update the administrator if your contact information changes.
